BADGER at work

As I said on Badger's page, I bought this little black and white lad with all good intentions of being able to own a working dog that could hold his own in the field and also complete in the showring. I hoped to be able to train him to a high standard for working in the field primarily ferreting, but also lamping. I also want to lure course and race him. His racing name (The Badge Man) has been reserved since he was nine weeks old with the WCRA!

His breeding meant he had the potential to do well, but you never know what fate has in store for you... I can only say that he has surpassed all my expectations so far. Working really well for a young pup, doing fantastically to date in the ring and crazy for the lure. What more could an owner want.....

I have spent a lot of time talking to, and being advised by some fantastic 'working' lads who have helped me understand what I needed to achieve before I could start working for real, and they have also taken Badger and myself out for some vital experiences that have shown us the way forward in this area. I will be forever indebted to them for the time and patience they've shown and our success so far is down to them.

At the time of writing, Badge has just turned 8 months old. He had his first ferreting trip at 5 months old in Somerset, and we haven't looked back since. Together with Badger and the five ferrets I have, we have been working our own permission and really enjoying being out in the field. We've had some steep learning curves, but that is what it is all about.

Rather than write reams and reams of stories, I've put together some slide shows of us out and about either working on our own or with friends. They do contain images of dogs working and rabbits being caught, so please be aware of that before you begin to view.

I hope you enjoy looking at them, as much as we have enjoyed being there!

Oh, and remember, this is a work in progress!
